Aikido, a Budo created by Morihei Ueshiba, was influenced by his learning of Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu from Sokaku Takeda, incorporating distinctive circular and turning motions. Gozo Shioda founded Yoshinkan Aikido, emphasizing Aiki Jujutsu techniques with intense application. Mori Sensei, a direct disciple of Gozo Shioda, introduced Yoshinkan Aikido to Australia, later renaming it Goshu-ryu Aiki Jujutsu to honor its origins.

Aiki dates back over 900 years, originating in the Heian period. Samurai warriors developed this martial art to overcome enemy soldiers clad in armour.

In time, Daito-Ryu evolved into a sophisticated system, focusing on joint locks, throws, and strikes. Yoshinkan Aikido's effectiveness depends on the practitioner's skill, training intensity, and adaptability. Practical application and regular, realistic training are crucial for developing effective self-defence capabilities.
